Over the past years, the number of journalists that have been exiled from their countries like Ukraine, Palestine, Russia, Afghanistan, Sudan, Haiti, and more has increased significantly and as a consequence, we have forgotten these people. As mentioned in Nieman Lab Predictions for Journalism, 2024 https://www.niemanlab.org/2023/12/well-step-up-our-defense-of-journalists-in-exile/ Lynette Clemetson said, "Journalists in exile require more comprehensive support, often over multiple years, to have a reasonable shot at reestablishing their lives and livelihoods." Journalism adjacent programs have helped these displaced professionals in many ways by providing housing, medical aid, and mental and immigration support. Lynette describes what civil society organizations should do this year, such as a network hub, an efficient system to arrange the hurt and displaced journalists. Shared resettlement resources, where they can feel more comfortable by being with people with things in common like language, and traditions.
