Recently all over social media, especially TikTok, there have been reports of deepfakes, or AI generated videos, spreading false information. An article by Marianna Spring on BBC calledTikTok users being fed misleading election news describes videos in which Rishi Sunak talking about "claims about his national service pledge for 18-year-olds, suggesting young people would be sent to current war zones in Ukraine and Gaza." which are entirely untrue. The creators of these videos have the ability to spread total misinformation to anyone who comes across their videos. Whats worse is that AI is becoming so popularized that anyone might be able to make a deepfake of various public figures saying anything, if the quality keeps getting better, the typical person might not be able to tell the difference.
