With AI on the rise, journalists question how it is going to effect their jobs. One journalist, Joe Amditis, brings into question "ethics and job security." Amiditis' publication in the Neiman Lab, "Journalism grapples with the promise and pitfalls of AI-assisted reporting," acknowledges how AI could benefit the journalism community. He describes this as needing to spend less time "reformatting text and more time chasing down leads." He sees the potential for AI to connect communities by making news less polarizing. Amitidis believes that this push is not coming from journalists themselves but rather the AI companies and their fans. While AI is a tool, the capitalist world we live in may find a way to use AI to make profits and further increase productivity. He believes journalists have a strong connection with communities and have an aspect of reality that cannot be replaced by AI. Amitidis' hope is that the news tools will "enhance" journalist's writing rather than going straight into AI without being weary of its effects.
