Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is an extremely common product that most of us use on a daily basis. Some of us have Alexa in our homes and offices, iPhone users have Siri, and some websites create their own AI to assist while you are using their site. It is helpful with almost everything, it is easily accessible to a lot of us at any time. Artificial Intelligence is a predominant aspect of life now, so what does this mean for Journalism? When I think of journalism, I think about those who give us news whether it is online or on paper. When researching this, I turned to https://www.niemanlab.org/2023/12/everyone-gets-an-ai-agent/ for a better look at what journalists themselves have to say. I dove into the "Nieman Labs. Predictions for Journalism, 2024" and looked at what Javaun Moradi, a product manager at Mozilla's Innovation Studios, reported to these predictions. I found that he believes AI will begin to take over the journalism industry but not completely. In his blog, he states "In the future, most content will be written by bots.". After this statement, he explains that the AI agent will do all the hard work and aid him and all the other journalists on what to do and say, and how to say it. I find this topic interesting since AI is slowly becoming a huge thing in the world. In one section titled "How we publish and serve", he says "When news consumers have quick questions, they’ll ask their trusted news agent — not a search engine.". This alone is a huge step since Google and other search engines are still heavily used today. I found this point fascinating since this is already starting to happen - AI is absolutely becoming the new norm. Pen on Paper journalism is slowly being nudged out the door due to this fast and convenient intelligence we have going on. While this is an expanding innovation, AI is still rapidly growing across the globe. "....the best option is a future where individuals and newsrooms have access to the same powerful technologies that big companies have" says Moradi, in his closing statement. I agree that big corporations and industries have access to powerful intelligence systems that the public does not. The world of journalism is always needed, and with the help of AI, the industry can grow more than ever. [1 image, 1 link, 3 quotes, 395 words]
