Journalists in Kashmiri struggle to report the news because of the restrictions against journalism. A journalist's job is to inform the public about news and events happening in the world. This is generally how people get information, and we become very dependent on the news that journalists publish. The Indian government has limited access to the internet and has restricted communication, which makes the job of a journalist very difficult to keep people informed. "Reporting from and about Kashmir has become increasingly perilous as the government has used state investigative agencies against journalists and media owners" (Rashid). This is a form of silencing the media and making news less accessible to the public.
