"People and communities should drive stories over innovations, technology, and novelty. They can inspire stories that capitalize on existing journalistic skills and are more interesting than any specific piece of software."
"Virtual worlds are often seen as future technologies, with a lack of recognition for their importance in the present. The persistence of this framing suggests rethinking about both virtual worlds and the communities who use them."
Diverse rhetorical strategies are used to effectively and efficiently capture a moment and convey reality through various journalists across the globe. Each of these journalists has different perspectives and experiences which add to how they collect and convey information. For example, the journalist, Maria Ressa, stationed in the Philippines uses emotive and affectional words that stand out, while reporting fearlessly, to highlight and further emphasize the current issue s of the freedom of the press. Similar to her, there are various, unique journalist who use their strengths and their talents to convey informative information through their experiences in the story, so that we may understand their perspective and the issues at hand. Some journalist leverages personal narratives in hopes of humanizing the researched conflict, some use research and balanced analysis of various perspectives, and others use powerful imagery through photography or even just by the use of their own words to carefully, but strategically depict the harsh and painful realities of life in places where there is distress and conflict. Through the use of powerful imagery and words, these journalists play a large role in fostering and cultivating empathy and engagement, which leads to spreading awareness of these situations and issues.
