As the title of this blogpost suggests, while deepfakes may very well be creating content that is new, but it is very real in the sense that the threat of deepfakes and anything ending up as fake, that one might be highly convinced of being real — is very real. The most recent example of politicians showing concern towards deepfakes came from the former President Trump’s appearance on a YouTube podcaster’s show, where he claimed that he had come across a video of him endorsing something that he had never endorsed, however even “he could not tell it apart” from being real. As 2024 is regarded the election year of the world, due to elections being held in some of the world’s most influential countries, AI is bound to have some sort of involvement. As the “Indian Deepfaker”, most commonly known for doing Bollywood deepfakes claims, “hundreds of politicians have been clamoring for his services, with more than half asking for “unethical” things”. These candidates even went on to request “fake audios of their competition”, and even going to the lengths of wanting their “faces superimposed on pornographic material.”
