Since April 29, continuous heavy rain in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, caused floods, landslides, and other natural disasters; the death toll from continuous heavy rain in the state rose to 75, with 103 people missing and 155 injured.  Manichesque, a volunteer who has lived here for 52 years, said: "I have never seen that much water." Indeed, Brazil's geology department says the flooding is worse than the historic 1941 flood, with water levels in some areas at their highest in nearly 150 years of record-keeping. Experts say climate change has increased the chances of such events. In the face of the global threat of climate change, the international community needs to work together to strengthen global cooperation on climate change. In that case, we must adopt effective adaptation measures to reduce climate hazards and the risks climate change poses to people and ecosystems.
