As the old saying goes, Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it, this is even applicable to the use of news and media currently. The rise of fake news sites are growing at a substantial rate due to the upcoming US election, yet how can we use ways of the past to combat against these sites. A professor at the University of Wisconsin-Superior has written a book called "Disinformed: A History of Humanity's Search for the Truth" where it goes to use our history to understand "present day hyper-targeted political advertising on social media." After looking up this story I found an interview he did with WPR, as the interview goes on he talks about the use of "ethos, pathos and logos" to combat disinformation which for me, really clicked into perspective. Seeing if a news site is credible or an expert, does the topic play on your emotions, is their stance logical with backing. I think the use of EPL is a wonderfully easy strategy for anyone wanting to find the truth in news.
