A recent trend on Facebook is becoming more concerning by the day, AI images. You may be wondering what this means. Well recently fake accounts are being created on Facebook and are posting AI generated content as a way to get engagement and eventually a following on the account. Which generates revenue for the person behind the account with the only work they put into it is uploading pre-generated images given to them by AI. The problem with this is many of Facebooks user are a part of an older generation, and many cannot tell that these AI generated images are fake. According to an NPR article some of the posts will go like this, “The caption will say, 'Close your eyes 70% and see magic.' And without squinting at all, it's very obviously sort of an image of Jesus, but it will be made up of, like, vegetables and a tractor and a little girl that are sort of distorted.” Content like this is spam being posted onto Facebook and many older users just cannot tell what is real and what is fake. This is the sad reality of many social media apps and is why we need more reform when it comes to AI generated content.
