Fake News

False news is all around the media communications, but what is the purpose? How does it convince people? There is a famous case of the criminal Sahil Omar; he was reported to be an illegal immigrant and one of the shooters at the Kansas City Superbowl. Interestingly, that name was also reported in an explosion at a border crossing in Niagara Falls, a sexual assault on the London Underground, and others.

"There is no evidence he exists at all" from the BBC report https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-68353305 "Super Bowl parade shooting: The real story behind fake criminal Sahil Omar" by Mike Wendling. This case was used as a reason for the long political debate about closing the southern US border. Many political figures raised their voice, like US congressman from Tennessee, Tim Burchett, who tweeted "CLOSE THE BORDER" and then deleted it after finding out the case of Sahil Omar was false. Such news creates an incorrect perspective against illegal immigrants and draws nothing but more hate. One would think that such political figures are well-informed about their sources. However, they keep misinforming people who probably still believe Sahil Omar is a real person.
