Fake News is Everywhere

Unfortunately, fake news is almost everywhere you might look in this current day and age. People like to post about it because it has better odds at getting them views. Views now relate to revenue. The more views that someone can get, the more advertisement revenue they can accrue from posts.

Very recently, there was news that had come out announcing the passing of former US President, Jimmy Carter. It was a fabricated image of what appeared to be a letter addressing this claim. It was later discovered that this letter was simply an “experiment to see how gullible people are to sensationalist headlines,” (Rueter, India Times).

It’s important to know when to avoid and what to believe when it comes to fake news. The question becomes, how is that possible in a world full of fake news? Cornell has even come out with posts on the best ways to decipher. They discuss that it’s most important to do your research and investigate multiple sources. With technology only growing, it’s an important time to start staying proactive about what is true and what is fake.
