Fake news is easy to come by on social media nowadays. I think it is labeled as misinformation often since we feel so personable with the person speaking. On TikTok, many influencers promote products that they don’t even use in real life. It is marketed to their audience as something it isn’t, but to the influence it is a check. Brands pay these influencers a lot of money to do just that. Influence their audience to buy their product. Oftentimes it is misinformation since the influencer tends to make simple mistakes like mispronounce the brands name. Or editing the end result of a product when it looks nothing like that at the end. This exact thing happened to a TikToker and she got a lot of heat for misinforming her followers on the mascara. “Mikayla Nogueira promoted L’Oréal Paris’s Telescopic Lift mascara to her 14.4 million followers.” Her mistake was found in her editing which caused an uproar of terrible comments after the accident. In this case her misinformation caused trouble with her brand and following. Reputation is a big deal and it messed Up the reputation of the brand as well
