Reading through NiemanLabs predictions  for 2020 one journalist Dannagal Young was optimistic that in 2020 people would realize they were “being used as pawns in a game” and stop hating the “other side” (Young,2019). The other side referred to people identifying as either conservative or liberal. Young stated that the media has created a reality where peoples political identity is the only thing that defines them and “algorithims and micro-targeting deliver disinformation” to us that we believe because we like the language and values presented. Young hoped that in 2020 people would “actively work to disrupt the infrustructure driving the American public apart (Young, 2019). Im sorry to say that almost 5 years later and people are still being used as pawns and falling for disinformation campaigns. With the 2024 election coming this year I do not currently see us bridging the gap as a society and I am not sure when that day will come.
