Generative AI VS Nature Photography
With generative AI becoming more involved with today's media and content, it makes for a difficult workplace when journalists and artists have to compete with free software that can reproduce their work on the cheap and with expediency. Thankfully, an article experiment by Audubon (https://www.audubon.org/news/what-does-generative-ai-mean-bird-and-nature-photography) does an excellent job at reassuring nature photographers that their jobs are safe for the time being.
In the article, photographs and generative images are put side by side so we can see just how close AI is to rivaling the human eye. Where there is evidence that generative ai can grasp the concept of key words from which to build their image from, most of the images lose clarity, cannot account for natural lighting and in summary cannot match up to that perfect moment that makes that perfect still image of nature. Though a few of the generative images get close, there is a distinct difference in quality. For now, AI will have to struggle to keep up, but in this profession, I believe this quote sums up the feelings of photography experts and nature stills fans. "It's up to humans, not AI, to act accordingly to preserve our world."
