Andrew Golis recently sat down with the folks at NiemanLab to discuss his predictions for journalism in 2024, and his biggest concern is how much "fake or just mediocre AI-generated 'content'" is now being published. However, he is hopeful that this influx of poorly written media will allow the natural storytellers to stand out. Golis mentions that AI will be an excellent tool for making "utility content" but does not believe that it will be able to articulate thoughts and feelings the same way a person does. As the publications that these people work at implement AI "authors," Golis believes the talented writers will turn to other platforms on their own. Unfortunately, this would apply the pressure of earning a living to the writer, which could compromise their journalistic integrity. Still, others have accomplished this feat while maintaining their integrity, so it may be less of an issue than I think. Read the full interview here.
