Artificial intelligence presents opportunities as well as challenges for today's journalists. According to Andrew Golis, "The robots will make us more human," suggesting that online communication could be enhanced by artificial intelligence. The rise of AI-generated content is a major issue. Golis notes, "greedy publishers and malicious propagandists are flooding the web with fake or just mediocre AI-generated 'content.'"A deluge of noise will drive people into more specialized, smaller communities. According to him, "AI will take the arms race of digital publishing shaped by algorithmic curation to its natural conclusion." In contrast to generic AI content, human creativity will shine. "Could a robot have done this?" will drive journalists to be more innovative, Golis believes. AI-driven shifts will support independent, community-funded journalism. "We’ll see the creation of a new generation of independent media businesses," Golis concludes. This Forbes article also elaborates on how generative AI will change jobs for journalists.
