Journalism and the Future

When reading over NeimanLab’s “Predictions for Journalism 2024,” one particular prediction caught my eye. This prediction was made by a journalist named David Cohn and his prediction was labeled, “I got 99 predictions, but AI ain’t one.” This intrigued me because AI has become so prevalent in these last few years. I honestly do see his point though, because as AI has become more popular, many issues are arising. For example, the issue of AI and ethical violations (i.e. plagiarism), and more recently the conversati9on of the environmental impacts of using AI. Another point Mr. Cohn made was about TikTok and the news. He predicted that, “Individual TikTok content creators will increasingly become news sources. They’ll cover local events and underrepresented stories, leveraging their large followings and engagement to bring attention to news outside traditional channels.” I have seen this become a thing and have even written our Paper 1 over the fact that I found a lot of my news through TikTok and creators relaying the informati9on to me in a condensed and easily digestible fashion.
