Journalists in the Wild: Find out what interesting journalists are doing across the world and share their stories. What rhetorical strategies are they using with their words or photos?
Across the world, journalists are employing various strategies (including rhetorical strategies!) to share their stories. For example, in India diverse journalists are incorporating vibrant imagery to emphasize social issues and capture emotional elements through the sole use of photos rather than words. According to an article highlighting women entrepreneurs and journalists abroad, Faye D’ Souza is “renowned for her commitment to fact-checking and editorial independence.” Another example is in Latin America, where reporters are weaving the two strategies of narrative storytelling and investigative journalism to incorporate personal anecdotes into their story, utilizing a pathos strategy to evoke emotion with the public. Lastly, in Europe, long-form journalism is used to paint the story, utilizing detailed descriptions and interviews to ensure the coverage is extensive and create trust between the reporter and the audience.
