A tax rise in Nairobi, Kenya, has spurred riot as the cost of living was risen for millions of people. A video posted by The Independent Kenya Human Rights Commission, depicting police firing on those that marched on parliament. 5 people were fatally shot, and 31 others wounded.
This is clearly a tragic event that should be considered with care to the situation. However, being so far from America, it's easy to see why this headline might not be deemed as important as the local politics or local sports news. With the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (https://frontpages.freedomforum.org/newspapers/pa_ppg-Pittsburgh_Post-Gazette) providing a large graphic of the Kenyan protest, but with little information, instead putting more emphasis on basketball star guard Bub Carrington. In contrast, The New York Times (https://frontpages.freedomforum.org/newspapers/ny_nyt-The_New_York_Times) adorned the front page with a similarly drastic image of the riot in Kenya, but also provides an more in-depth rundown of the goings on currently in Kenya.
