Imagine a friend that personally costs you between $1,000-$2,000 a year. Would your natural reaction be to keep them as your best friend? Most likely not. However, dogs cost an owner roughly the same amount, and depending on the deviousness of the dog, they could cost more. Yet, they are referred to as man's best friend. "Dogs provide non-judgmental support in a unique way." Says researcher Kerry Rodrigues, "They have also been found to reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol, lower perceived stress in individuals, improve mood, and improve energy up to 10 hours after interactions." Because of the dog's innocence, being the means of fulfilling natural human desires to nurture, and being entertaining, dogs are strongly cherished around the world. The small physical cost is covered by the vast spiritual fulfillment dogs offer to their loving owners.
