There is a fake news epidemic in affect. Disinformation and misinformation are the concepts considered the main issues of the fake news epidemic. “Misinformation has been described as a global harm, but the amount of misinformation encountered by people is difficult to determine.” (APA, 2023) People are creating fake news using misleading, headlines, selective data, fabricated/ misused quotes, and strong language to provoke reactions. The efforts being made to counteract it include fact checking, technological solutions; AI and machine learning to find inconsistencies and algorithm revision. An awareness campaign would educate people on ways to identify fake news and misinformation. Giving people general knowledge on how to cross check sources. Plus incorporating media literacy into school curriculum to prevent misinformation at an early age.
