Olympic Photojournalism: Wally Skalij

Los Angeles Times photojournalist Wally Skalij is on the scene at the 2024 Paris Olympics catching images on the frontlines of the action. Tasked with capturing images of hundreds of athletes from many countries in many different sports, Skalij has beautifully captured the action. From incredible stills to series of moving images, the images taken have been an incredible testament to how beautifully photojournalism can capture an event. Skalij has mastered detailed shots that evoke emotion and also show a paused minute moment of the biggest event in these athletes’ lives. Some of the photos depict moments of victory or loss, moments right before, moments before, and moments far after. Each photo crafts a narrative on its own and showcases the beauty of athleticism and the feats of human athletes while also drawing the viewer in to live the moment of that photograph.
