With the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Olympic committee made an iconic decision to hold the opening ceremony throughout the city center. Compared to the decades of ceremonies held within a stadium, Paris’ decision made a big difference. The athletes were able to float down the Seine, through to the Eiffel Tower, where the final portion of the ceremony was held. With an outdoor ceremony as special as this, people all over the city can enjoy the multitude of performances happening, it not only emphasizes Paris as a city itself, by having everything mold to the buildings and unique structure. An open olympics involves the public more than ever before, “crowds crammed the Seine’s banks and bridges and watched from balconies.” Paris’ decision will go down in Olympic history.
