Alex Perry is a former editor-in-chief of The Daily Northwestern and an incoming intern at The Washington Post. She predicts that "College media remains the news industry’s younger, cooler aunt" in 2024. With the many challenges journalism already faces in the current, student journalists in universities suffer with the reduction of funding and increasing lack of support and resources college media programs need in order to thrive. Perry calls on professional journalists and industry associations to give support and mentorship for the students following their in footstep, stressing that "it’s important to spread these resources equitably across the ecosystem as well, recognizing that some university papers are more supported and resourced than their counterparts." Perry acknowledges the kind of impactful work college media outlets have done, further emphasizing the importance of their support. The success of our journalism in the future relies on what we do to support its students in the present.
