Dominic-Madori Davis is a senior reporter at TechCrunch and writer of the newsletter The Black Cat, and her prediction for journalism in 2024 asserts that "Experts — not influencers — will cover more Black news". Davis brings up the issue of the public relying on influencers for information rather than actual journalists and experts who possess the actual credentials that allow them to disseminate information in the first place, credentials that extend far beyond the reach of simply having a following on social media. Davis uses news coverage surrounding the Black community as an example, believing that there is not enough sufficient and reliable journalism over Black news, asserting that "legacy media is not prioritizing Black news and doesn’t know how to properly cover the Black community", while "Black grassroots organizations often don’t have enough money to dive deeper into an issue". This creates a space where "Media personalities arise and tweet unbeholden to rigorous journalistic standards, filling in the gaps where the truth and expertise should be." Davis has hope that Black news will see a rise in coverage from more trusted voices, bringing up examples of prominent Black stories such as the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, and Cassie Ventura's lawsuit against Sean Combs being covered by media institutions such as TIME and The New York Times. She ends her predictions stating "There is so much happening in the community that reflects who and what we are as a nation. We can’t tell our stories alone, so let’s do it together".
