It was rumored that RNA which is Ribonucleic Acid, was being put in the commercial chicken feed and it is why chickens weren't laying eggs. The claim originated from this article "https://bmcgenomics.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12864-015-1364-0 ". Their study was to see the difference between the chickens with low and high feed efficiency. In the articled it was never mentioned that RNA was being added to the feed, on the contrary "RNA sequencing was being used to see how differences in feed efficiency can be explained by what levels of RNA are produced by the chickens' cells". The FDA has also confirmed that this is all false and that "RNA is not on its own, a feed additive".
