Journalist are being killed by Mexico every year, and yet the masterminds behind these crimes remain unpursued by the justice system. In the article New Documentary Shows Mexican Journalists Have Nowhere to Turn author Melissa Esquivias talks about the documentary State of Silence directed by Santiago Maza and produced by Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna. They explore the depth of how many people have been killed, highlight the impunity rate for crimes against journalists in Mexico being at 99%. "These impactful cases are just a small but powerful sample of the reality for journalist in Mexico, especially those working outside Mexico City."(Esquivias, 2024). They use a large amount of pathos appealing to human emotion, ethos from quoting officials, and a call to action.
