Plano has always been a great city to live in. I grew up in Plano for my entire life. I moved once for a year or two, but still found my way back to Plano by the end it. A feature about Plano that I find likeable, is that you can find a multitude of different neighborhoods to choose to live in. The city is so big that you can live in a mansion over near Legacy West, or you can live in some quaint older homes near Downtown Plano.
The house I live in was built in the 1950s right near Downtown Plano. My whole neighborhood is built with houses similar to mine. As cute as an older home can look, it takes some serious upkeep to ensure it doesn’t look rundown as it is an older home. The street I love on has about 20-30 houses that mostly are well kept up with. There are a couple houses on the street, however, that don’t upkeep their house from the outside and the whole property can easily look similar to some abandoned lots at times.
Personally, I don’t have much of an issue with the outward appearances of homes, but I was fascinated to see if that opinion varied amongst my street. I asked a couple of my neighbors what their thoughts were on the few houses that didn’t contribute to their houses upkeep, and the answers I got were all so different. They ranged from, “I don’t really have much of a preference as long as I’m left alone,” to, “It infuriates me because it makes this whole street look trashy.” I can say that having houses that are more rundown can decrease your properties value if the whole area starts to look bad. While we may not be able to control how others treat their house appearances, we can all choose to make our houses look good and maybe that’s what inspires other to also do the same.
