Motaz Azaiza is a photojournalist from Gaza. Unlike an official news organization, Azaiza used his Instagram to show videos and photos of what the war between Palestine and Israel looks like for citizens in the Gaza Strip. His photos show raw images of what life looks like on the strip, and he shares his personal stories of struggling with depression after seeing the horrors of war. His voice is used to connect to people emotionally, and he uses the pathos strategy to move people to care about what is happening worldwide. I believe pathos is one of the most effective rhetorical styles because emotions make people feel closer to each other. When the “war became too bloody” to share on Instagram Azaiza chose to flee his home and continue gaining support for Gaza by speaking at universities and “protesting with the people who protested for us” (Azaiza, 2024). Warning his instagram contains graphic pictures of dead bodies, including children. This was the only picture I thought was appropriate enough to share that was still emotionally moving since I cannot blur pictures like Instagram.
