In today's society, is easy to become manipulated and misinformed when by social media. It's a common belief that what's in the interest has to be true or holds some sense of validity. After visiting https://ebookcentral-proquest-com.library.collin.edu/lib/collin-ebooks/reader.action?docID=840080, and finding the book "Web of Deceit", by Anne P. Mintz, she explains how "[t]he internet is a petri dish for the growth and spread of misinformation" (Mintz). Researchers have determined that the accelerated usage of Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking platforms have led to an induced rate of fake news and misinformation. According to Mintz, some individuals intentionally manipulate online users into believing the information they've displayed for personal gain. She elaborates by stating, "[w]e must learn where to find quality information, how to evaluate the sources we encounter, and how to avoid being manipulated and victimized by online criminals" (Mintz).
