It is with an extremely heavy heart that I write this piece. Four accidents. That is how many fatal, pedestrian-automobile collisions have taken place in and around Wylie, Texas in the last six weeks. Two of them were young children. As a mother, nothing tugs at my heartstrings more than hearing of tragedies such as these. What will it take to fix the issue at hand? “There needs to be greater police presence in Wylie. People speed up and down all the roads at all times, taking no precautions for pedestrians.” Says Margaret Eubanks, who has lived off a quiet country road in Wylie all her life. Another resident, Casey White states, “young teenagers used to fly past my house doing 60 mph in a residential. There are kids that play on the roads. That’s why people keep getting hurt.” With all the accidents that have taken place, you would think that the city would put a greater emphasis on road safety, but we have yet to hear a word from any city officials regarding the matter.
