What's On The Front Page?

Different stories will be considered front page news depending on where you are. The New York Times probably isn't going to put the score of your high school football game on the front page, but there is a good chance that the local paper for a small town in Texas will. Thanks to this website, it is very easy to compare front pages across the country. Although the content is different, all the papers have an image occupying nearly one-third of the front page to draw in prospective readers. Usually, a main story is centered at the top of the page, with at least two other articles sharing the space below. A paper like The New York Times can have nearly 20 stories mentioned on the front page. Obviously, there is not enough room for the whole article, but they include enough to pique the reader's interest and turn to that page. Smaller papers do the same thing but at a smaller scale. Today, many outlets reported on a Supreme Court ruling. Titles of articles ranged from "Court: Abusers can't own guns" to "Justices deny gun rights of domestic abusers." Both share the same sentiment, but I expect the first article to add more commentary while the latter sticks to the facts. Newspapers have been in print for long enough for an effective formula to be adopted by most papers, with each making minor changes to make them stand out.
