Although the news is now more abundant than ever, the audience is declining. In Predictions for Journalism 2022, Jesse Holcomb suggests that this is because of "months of wearying news about Covid-19." The number of individuals viewing the news is declining, but those that continue to watch the news are becoming obsessed with it. Especially when it comes to following politics. Holcomb believes that the "line between politics and news media is becoming blurred." Since the line between the two is hard to distinguish for many people, asking about news intake "might as well be [asking] about their consumption of politics." The following news is now lumped together with politics. This creates a decrease in interest for some, but a peak in interest for others. Although many Americans do not completely trust political news, they "also can't resist" it.
