Not too long ago I would wake up the sound of my phone alarm going off and the first thing I would do before brushing my teeth would be to look for news on Twitter. And I'm not the only one who does this. According to Amy Mitchell, Elisa Shearer, and Galen Stocking, "seven-in-ten U.S. adult Twitter news consumers" use it to get their daily news. Twitter is a convenient social media app to get your news from. Not only because you can find different articles talking about the same thing, but because you're able to see the tweet and the link attached to it, if you find yourself interested enough. Sometimes, the user tweeting may open a thread on the subject. Since Twitter only allows for 250 characters and a picture or link, this makes it easy to engage the reader. Not only that, but it allows the user to see the different opinions that may come from the article. It's a quick way for readers to make a choice on what side they stand or do more research to understand the subject better. The rhetorical strategies that are used in tweets are short, but captivating messages with videos, pictures or articles attached to engage the reader's attention on a particular subject.
