Beware of Fake News

Rhetorical strategies such as catering to the target audience are used to fool people into believing fake news. The reason behind fake news itself can be for multiple reasons but the way they continue to succeed is by targeting a specific audience that will believe it. The common factor with fake news is that it is posted by people trying to gain something. Whether it be targeting a political audience to sway their opinion or promoting a product to get money, fake news is always done with the intent of self gain. What is being done to stop fake news from spreading? This is a complex answer because fake news will never stop appearing in the media as well as innocent misinformation being spread. However, there are ways to prevent falling for posts that contain fake content. Fake content almost always lacks accurate sources and evidence. As I said earlier the false comments about Covid 19 have no real information to support it. Stopping fake news from circulating can be done by reporting the post itself. Misinformation can be corrected with the correct information while disinformation is to be ignored. According to the M Library Research Guide, “Misinformation is false or inaccurate information that is mistakenly or inadvertently created or spread; the intent is not to deceive. Disinformation is false information that is deliberately created and spread…”
