Bill Cosby: A Bad Household Name

New York Times journalist Charlie Savage takes on the disgraceful story regarding Bill Cosby and his charges of drugging and sexually assaulting multiple women, including a woman named Andrea Constand. Savage’s straightforward breakdown of Bill Cosby’s release after three years in jail carefully explains why what happened, happened. The court overturned Cosby’s conviction due to the prosecutors’ violation of Cosby’s rights. Bruce L. Castor Jr. claimed, “I decided that we would not prosecute Mr. Cosby, and that would set a chain of events that would get some justice for Andrea Constand;” however, the entertainer ended up getting charged anyway. Just because he cannot face a new trial for assaulting Andrea Constand, doesn’t mean that he isn’t responsible for the crime. According to Ms. Constand, a concern that the people have regarding this case is that the ruling “may discourage those who seek justice for sexual assault in the criminal justice system from reporting or participating in the prosecution of the assailant or may force a victim to choose between filing either a criminal or civil action.”
