Chip Shortage Leading to Car Thefts

In the wake of the chip shortage that affected the production rate of cars, car thefts have been up by 31% in the DFW metroplex. According to an article from WFAA, "the No. 1 vehicle being stolen in Dallas this year is the Chevy GMC pickup with model years between 2016-2018. They said it's because they are easier to steal." In a conversation I had with my dear friend Michael Schram, he made some excellent points regarding the issue. He believes that the "cost of goods has gone up, so people have been parting these cars out." In addition to stealing this car, they will swap the VINs to make the vehicle seem legitimate. Half of the car thefts have occurred in cold weather when people let their car warm up unattended. DPD recommends that people take extra precautions during this unpredictable time.
