Community Collaboration

Many people want journalists to engage with their communities more. Shaydanay Urbani is a manager of First Draft, and Nancy Watzman is director of the media consultancy Lyxn LLC. Both talk about how they "found that the most damaging misinformation narratives started as local rumors, memes, and misleading photos." So how can journalists gather their information and still have the community involved? Urbani and Watzman said, "Humans matter. Training, tools, and research are badly needed but alone are not enough." With that being said, it is important for them to have data and then go to the community to gather more information. Having "local collaboration is key to slowing misinformation."
