The front page of a newspaper is what reels us in to pick it up and read it. I compared two front pages from "Today's Front Pages". I compared the front pages of The Birmingham News and Summit Daily News. The front page of The Birmingham News uses a lot of eye catching visuals. "In order to attract new readers, newspapers often employ tactics such as sensationalizing news, printing graphic photos and increasing celebrity entertainment pieces." For example, they have a colorful drawing next to a huge print that says "SUNDAY". In the middle they also have a huge photo of two red dice being rolled. This colorful image definitely catches the viewers eye into reading further in the article. The second front cover from Summit Daily News also provides an eye catching cover. The front cover has a larger photo of a skier going down a large mountain. It also provides us the sun shining bright which also attracts our eyes. These factors is what has readers further reading the articles. If newspapers had no images and a uninteresting titles, no one would every pick them up to read them. These images and bold titles is what drives us towards picking up specific newspapers.
