Comparison of News Feeds

When comparing Reddit News and Apple News, there are quite a few differences between them and how they present their news. Reddit sorts the articles based on type, like U.S. Politics, Sports, Technology, and World News, so that you can find news based on your specific interests. Additionally, the news you see on Reddit is based on content "that the community surfaces from communities that frequently share and engage we news." This means that all the news that shows up on your feed is specifically curated by other users of the app. Apple News, on the other hand, automatically shows the viewer the "Top Stories," which are "selected by Apple News editors, the best stories from the channels and topics you follow, and stories and issues from Apple News+." Apple News does have sections dedicated to personalized news and articles popular with other viewers, but you must scroll further down on the app to see them. It is interesting that both apps give the reader the ability to personalize their news, but they present the news stories differently. Also, a person would use Apple News solely to look at news, or read magazines, whereas a person can use Reddit as a normal social media app, as well as for reading up on current events. It feels as if Reddit gives the user more freedom to do and look at whatever they want, while Apple News shows handpicked news that is mostly relevant to major current events.
