Finding Fake News

Fake news is one of the most destructive forms of falsity with the intentions to destroy the reputation of others. It is very common and has become more frequent as the news has become more accessible across multiple platforms. Kwasi Kwarteng is a member of the UK parliament who serves as a Secretary of State for Business. It has recently come to civil servants attention that he has been spreading fake news in order to better his reputation.

As a way to fool his audience, Kwarteng compared the last few years of crime rate to current physical crime rates to declare that it has decreased by 14%. In actuality, he did not incorporate fraud or computer misuse into his current crime rate statistics. He also tried to fool his audience by taking an ethos approach. He used creditable sources and made anonymous quotes to slander the monarch and "is damaging morale within the Department for Business" Dave Penman claimed, the head of FDA civil servants. Kwarteng used fake news and weaponized it in order to boost his reputation while belittling others.
