When looking at an articles credibility it can often be hard to detect whether or not it presents fake news. It's often hard because websites will often use facts from verified news outlets and layer it with their own misinformation. They will also go through social media and use flashy headlines that don't reflect the information in the articles themselves. News sources will also use yellow journalism in order to imply false facts while not actually flat out saying them. This allows them to spread false information without actually having to take responsibility. This is why it's important to look at sources with a critical eye and always look to more than one source.
