Front page news presents the most interesting or important stories of the day. Deciding what headline to advertise on the front page could lead to either someone choosing to read or dispose of a newspaper. The headline is created with the intent of catching the reader's eye. If the topic is not viewed as interesting, or relevant, more than likely no one will want to read it. Just as the headline is an important aspect of every newspaper, so are the illustrations. Photographs, cartoons, and other illustrations are created to "provide aesthetic appeal [to] a newspaper." Photographs that have no correlation to the headline could affect the paper's clarity. The wrong placement of an illustration creates a messy look that could turn away readers. Overall, the headline and illustrations on the front page could be the deciding factors for a successful story.
