Generation Z is a group that will demand the best from any entity, and journalism is not an exception to that. This generation values authenticity in its content and is currently on track to be the “most well-educated generation yet” (Munslow, NiemanLab Predictions for Journalism 2022). In order to not get left behind by Gen Z, journalists need to place a stronger focus on putting out the best digital media that they can. This means not only providing accurate facts to their audience, but putting more personality into their writing and online presence. When consuming news on social media, “those under 35 pay the most attention to internet personalities” (Munslow). This means that in order for journalists to establish trust and a solid foundation with Gen Z, they need to find ways to build connections with their younger online audience. The connections journalists can build with Gen Z through their online presence can be the key to delivering news to them and ensuring that journalism does not fall behind when Gen Z leads the world into the next decade.
