Stanford researchers described the results as "dismaying," "bleak" and a “threat to democracy." the Stanford researchers have spent over a year analyzing how students across the country are able to evaluate online sources of material. over 80% of middle schoolers that were surveyed believed that sponsored content that the research put out was a real news story. and almost 80% of high schoolers determining if a picture was fake or not.
