In the World of Journalism: The North and The South

When you read the title, you are probably thinking it is about the American Civil War. That is what I thought as well when I read the title to an article focusing on climate collapse. But it is not. The North and South are referring to the Americas, the different parts of the continent.

In Predictions for Journalism 2022, Natalia Viana doesn't joke around. She straight off dives right into climate crisis. She is a journalist who advocates for the Latin American cultures and the importance of the Amazon as 10 percent of the world's biodiversity. North America, home to Los Vegas, New York, and other cities that pollute the world, does not offer help to South America to keep the world a green and healthy place. Viana says that for journalists who try to get news to the North, the "editors disregard interviewees as “biased,” “uneducated,” or “uncorroborated.” It is not the people in the North that are the problem, it is the corporate world that refuses to doing to solve it. Simply put, if the corporation can't make a solid profit off of it, then they will choose another story to run.

Until next time,

good afternoon, good evening, and good night.
