Investigative Journalism

Over the course of living in Plano Texas for almost 10 years, I have noticed the rapid growth of the city and the issues as well as the valuable changes that were occurring due to the accelerated change. I interviewed a young man, Cord Koetter, who was a Plano resident for 12 years. He stated that he moved here because the suburban life was very enticing to him, there were a lot of job opportunities lying around and the neighborhoods were very well kept and clean; however, he begins to voice that “over the span of a few years, Plano wanted to transition a suburban town to a city” which has caused a lot of problems for him and his family. He says that “because they are trying to transition, they are trying to bring in big corporations like Toyota which are making it very difficult for collar workers to find jobs”. Not only is the growth in these big corporations making the job market more of a hassle, but the growth in the city has caused the increase in crime rate as well. “The residential areas don’t look as well kept and the crime in my neighborhood started to get so bad that I’ve had to install security cameras”. As Plano tries to transition from a Suburb to a city, there are a lot of challenges that the city and its residents face. Large quantities of people are leaving Plano and settling in a new Suburb, Prosper, to get back to that suburban life.
