Journalism and The Future - Part 2

In my previous post "Journalism and The Future" I wrote about the NiemanLab interviews. In this post I would like to focus on one specific interview I found particularly interesting. One of the journalists interviewed was Andrew Freedman (pictured above). He says this about the direction journalism is headed:

In the wake of the Glasgow Climate Pact, which was long on promises and short on specifics, extreme weather and climate events will increasingly force reporters’ and editors’ hands, demanding more sustained coverage

His whole interview can be found at this link: https://www.niemanlab.org/2021/12/this-is-the-year-we-all-become-climate-reporters/ This is just one of many examples where these issues have been brought up after so long being dismissed as not as important. This can be both good and bad. On one hand, journalists are given the opportunity to raise awareness of these issues. On the other hand, journalists are given less creativity and are under increasing pressure to deliver these important news stories. It is a tricky balancing act and should be approached with some caution.
