NeimanLab's "Predictions for Journalism 2022" provides insight as to where some journalists think their field will be headed in the coming year. One of the biggest trends I noticed when browsing various quotes was the topic of diversity in journalism. In discussing the impact of community leaders in modern day journalism, Natalia Viana explains that these leaders "are discredited based on how they talk, the color of their skin, or their culture" (Viana paragraph 9). With this is mind, it is easy to understand why some journalists are frustrated with the way their field is evolving.
Perhaps journalists' largest and most reliable source for the latest information are members of the community who experience what is being investigated firsthand. If the words from these people are being labeled as illegitimate simply because of their race or culture, then there is a major problem. In an age where financial incentive can get false rhetoric on the front headline and make traditional journalism obsolete, it is no wonder why Viana, and many others, are clenching their fists in fear of what's next.
